Quantifying flow velocities
A large water reservoir was modeled using CFD to improve water quality. Non-uniform discharge, dead zones and partly long residence time caused the deterioration of the water quality. Possible structural measures were evaluated to improve the general flow behaviour in the reservoir.

Major findings
- Original flow pattern contained large dead (stagnant) zones
- Non-uniform hydraulic residence time was observed
- Implementation of an internal wall resulted in positive impact on the flow pattern
